We begin with a recap of "Day of Recovery". To know how it went, read the previous episode guide very fast. ;)
There are army men outside the Institute.
Reporter Lady: Excuse me, have you found any new evidence that mutants are dangerous?
One of the Institute's defense mechanisms, a stun-gun or something, pops up in front of them, but shorts out before doing anything.
Reporter Lady: I think we have our answer!
The anchorman, in the studio, talks for a bit, and the TV shows some pictures of our mutants, ending with a shot of Rogue, and says that most of them look normal, despite their 'fearsome powers'.
Rogue (watching the TV): Normal? I look fat!
Logan tells her to be quiet. They're in a little store, and Rogue decides not to buy the cupcakes. Some army men come in, and apparently recognize her.
Army Man: You, stop!
Rogue: Uh oh!
The army man shoots a weapon and hits the TV, destroying it. Rogue hides behind a shelf, and Logan gets battle-ready.
Roll credits!
Aaand...Logan loses his mind. He destroys
some soda cans. The army guy shoots his weapon again by accident, hitting
the light fixture and causing it to swing down and hit him in the face.
He falls out through the door, where more army men are hanging around in
a truck. They move in.
The gas from the exploded soda cans triggers
the sprinkler systems. Rogue throws Logan a can of whipped cream, which
he dices, splattering some army guy in the face. Then she throws some newspapers
at them.
Headline: Mutants! Chaos
More generic enemy-trashing...
Rogue goes outside, grabs Logan's bike,
and rides back in. Logan destroys the back wall of the store, and away
they go.
Army Man (into walkie-talkie): This is Unit 6. We need air support. Now!
The newsanchor passes us to the congressional
hearing in Washington D.C. The speaker is talking about mutants being 'concealed
weapons of the worst kind'.
The door opens, and in comes Storm, looking
civilized but angry, and Beast, who just looks odd in a formal suit.
Speaker: What is the meaning of this? Who
are you?
Storm: We are mutants. And this witch-hunt
is going to end, now.
New scene.
A train rolls up to a station. The conductor
or somebody opens the boxcar door and talks to the guard about the guy
who got on in some town.
It's Juggernaut.
The guard tells him to get off. Juggernaut
puts on his helmet, jumps out of the car (destroying part of the roof),
pushes the guard out of the way, and walks off.
His pants are...um...a little tight. ^_^'
Guard: Notify the sheriff...we've got a mutant.
Scene: A little cave in the woods.
Jean tells Scott that Evan is trying to
get his little TV working. She wants to see how the hearings are going.
Scott is pessimistic, and Jean says he isn't helping.
Scott apologizes, and says he's worried
about the Professor. Jean feels sure he's okay.
They're just working up to a touching
moment, when Kurt 'ports onto the rock behind them, holding the little
TV.
Kurt (fiddling with the knobs): How's the
reception from here?
Scott: Lousy. Just like your timing.
Kurt 'ports out, and reappears hanging from a stalactite. Evan tells him not to move; the reception is perfect.
Kurt: Aw, now I'm trapped!
Kitty: I got it! *takes the TV from Kurt,
careful not to move it* Bobby?
Bobby ices her up, freezing the TV into
place. Then Kitty phases out of the ice. Tada!
Then they're all pushing, fighting, yelling
for someone to turn up the volume. Kurt 'ports into the front, and Kitty
starts phasing through people. She stops halfway through Kurt. (Yes, her
lower chest is inside his groin...) He makes a comment about personal space.
Bobby makes a big...thing, out of ice,
which seems to be reflecting the TV and acting as a larger screen. The
speaker at the hearings shows a picture of the half-destroyed Danger Room,
and says that the mutants appeared to be preparing for war.
Back to the motorcycle.
They're being chased by military helicopters, and Logan is being a terrible backseat driver.
Rogue: Duck!
Logan: Wha?
A low branch knocks him off the motorcycle.
Logan: That's it, I'm driving!
But the helicopters are coming, and there's
no time, so he just has to cling to the back of the bike.
In the cave, the kids are watching the
speaker argue the public's warped version of what happened with the Sentinel
robot.
Rogue skids into the cave, and Logan goes
flying, destroying all Bobby's ice-things.
Rogue (about the helicopters): It won't take them long to find us. *helicopters appear at the cave entrance* Correction...*didn't* take them long!
Commercial break!
Guy in Helicopter: Heads up! We've got multiple bogies. That cave is *crawling* with muties.
Logan gets ready to fight, but Scott stops him. The army gives them one chance to surrender. Bobby ices up and blocks the cave entrance with an ice wall.
Logan: Listen, kid-
Scott: No. We're the X-Men. We're not
kids anymore. You trained us. And you know what? We're good. *blasts through
the ice wall, takes a few shots at the helicopters* We're very good.
Scott and Logan fight for a while, and Scott says he's going to run away, because that's what the Professor would have them do.
Logan: You want to be in charge? Then you're on your own!
He takes off on his bike, and Scott leads the remaining team. The helicopters shoot pepper-spray canisters at them.
Evan: Mine! *destroys canisters with spikes*
Jean: And mine! *destroys more canisters,
and one helicopter, with a psychic blast*
Kurt and Kitty teleport into a cockpit.
Kurt: Hi! I'm Nightcrawler. This is Shadowcat.
Kitty: And *this* is your weapons system.
*phases through some controls*
Both: Bye! *'port out*
They reappear inside the open hatch of
the Velocity, which Scott and Bobby got into the air. Not shown: how Evan,
Rogue, and Jean got there.
Jean stops up the remaining two helicopters
with her powers, lowers them gently to the ground, and bends their rotors
beyond usability.
New scene.
The Channel 22 news van is driving down
a road, chasing Juggernaut. The reporter lady, on her phone, says that
they need to confirm they're after a mutant.
A police car goes flying, literally, past
them.
Reporter Lady (catching her phone): I'd say it's confirmed.
They come up to a bunch of police cars.
Policeman (into walkie-talkie): We need
some back-up!
Person On The Other End: How many units?
Policeman: Let's start with the army.
In DC, Mr. McCoy says that they are people, not monsters. News comes in about Juggernaut, and they get some footage on the screen. It shows him throwing a tank, which knocks over a telephone pole near a dam and severs electricity to the entire valley below.
Speaker: Not monsters?
The same news is playing on a screen in the Velocity.
Jean: It's Juggernaut!
Kitty: And without the Professor...
Kurt: ...there's no way to stop him!
Commercial break!
Juggernaut jumps over the dam, crashing
into a generator building on the other side. He throws a large machine
part at the dam, and water starts to come through.
Two helicopters shoot at him. He's buried
in rocks, but, being Juggernaut, gets out. He jumps onto one of the helicopters,
which immediately begins to fall. (How heavy is this guy?)
He smashes his head through the window,
and the thing flies in ways that I don't think a helicopter can, or at
least should, before landing on top of the dam. The pilot runs away.
Reporter Lady: It seems the military has run into a mutant even *they* can't stop.
The Velocity passengers are still watching.
Jean: So, are we getting involved or not?
Scott: It'll be the Sentinel disaster
all over again. Somehow, they'll blame us.
Jean: Scott...what would the Professor
have us do?
Scott thinks, then turns the Velocity around.
At the dam, the second helicopter shoots at Juggernaut. He throws the downed helicopter, shotput style, at it. Kurt teleports into the cockpit.
Kurt: Don't worry, I've got you!
He grabs their shoulders and takes them
to a safe place. Which happens to include news cameras. He smiles and waves,
then 'ports back to the team.
Juggernaut challenges them, talks big,
then they fight.
Kurt 'ports around a little, just to annoy
him. Jean lifts him, then Scott shoots at him, knocking him onto Bobby's
ice slide. He nearly falls off the dam, but manages to climb back up.
He charges along the top of the dam until
he suddenly realizes that the kids aren't there.
Evan shoots at him from the top of the
generator (I think). No effect, of course. Juggernaut chases him. Evan
jumps down and shoots at the top of the generator, which explodes.
As Juggernaut falls, Kitty jumps on top
of him. When they hit bottom, he's left phased halfway through some other
building.
Notes: Wow. So that doesn't instantly kill a person?
Meanwhile, Jean uses her powers to put all the water back on the right side of the dam. Then Bobby freezes it all.
Kurt teleports over and starts undoing
the buckles on Juggernaut's helmet. He manages to open three before Juggernaut
throws him at Jean.
Juggernaut busts up the building, and
gets out. He challenges Scott, who shoots at him some more, knocking off
his helmet. Juggernaut walks through his blasts.
Juggernaut: Nothing can stop me! I'm raw
power!
Scott: You want it raw, tough guy? Then
take it raw!
He takes off his visor and opens his eyes,
and there's this enormous stream of red stuff. And...Juggernaut walks through
it. He clamps his hand over Scott's face.
Kurt, Evan, and Bobby charge him, but
get swatted away.
Rogue and Kitty phase up from the ground.
Rogue takes off her glove, and Kitty gives her a boost. She lands on Juggernaut's
shoulders and grabs his face.
Eventually she gets thrown off. Juggernaut
is *still* standing!
But now Rogue can match him. She parries
his blows, then throws him away. As he's flying, Bobby encases him in ice.
The people at the hearing are watching this.
Speaker: Uh...what did they just do?
Storm: What they were *trained* to do:
use their powers for good.
At the dam, the police can't find Juggernaut. Scott says they shouldn't look for him. They're done. Rogue collapses.
Rogue: I'm okay, but, I got a big chunk of his mind, and...and I know where the Professor is!
They go to Juggernaut's holding cell at the maximum security prison. Xavier is floating in the suspended animation tube. The guard had no idea he was there, and lets him out. Logan comes in.
Logan (to Scott): Good job.
On TV, the President makes a statement that mutants are okay. The real guy behind the Sentinels has been arrested.
Watching are Magneto, Pietro, Gambit, and Colossus. They don't say anything.
The newsanchor's name is Frank Lee. *LOL*
