Sentinel: Mutant Life Signs. Detected. Terminate. Shut Down.

A team of scientists come to recover Logan.

Trask: Cage the mutant for now. I want a full diagnostic on the Sentinel, find out how well it withstood our little game. Then, we'll do this again.

Scene: The Institute.

Jubilee: Whose fault is this?
Bobby (seeing a laser gun aim at Jubilee): Hit the deck!

He freezes two guns, and Ray comes to destroy a third.

Jubilee: This place is getting way too unfriendly. We've got to get out.
Ray: Believe me, I've tried.
Bobby: We've got to shut down the main computer. Assemble the others and meet me in the planning room.

Outside, Scott is climbing the cliffs by the waterfall. A rock comes loose under his foot, and he falls to the bottom.

Tabitha: Splat. So it's a no-go?
Scott: Unless one of you has developed telekinesis. We'll have to go through down there.
Tabitha: Stand aside, it's time for a little bada-bing, bada-boom!
Scott: Whoa, let's try to avoid the rockslide scenario. Amara?
Amara: I can *do* this.

She flames up and melts through the rocks.

Tabitha: Wow. What do you call this, the X-Cave?
Amara: The elevator's not working.

In a brilliant flash of, um, brilliance, Scott leads them up the stairs.

Computer: The Institute will self-destruct in seven minutes and thirty seconds.

Scene: The city.

From inside the Velocity, Xavier spots the spheres.

Xavier: Confirmed. Magneto is here.
Ororo: I should be out there with them.
Xavier: You will be.
Ororo (through headset): Team 2, you'll find some very familiar-looking metal spheres.
Jean: Got it.
Ororo: Team 3, what's your status?
Hank: Nothing yet.

Todd eats some flies hovering around Kitty's face.

Kitty: Do you *have* to do that?
Todd: Sorry. Missed lunch.

Lance (coming out of a warehouse): Not here either. This is getting creepy.

Pietro looks knowing. Wanda looks suspicious.

Kurt ports to each orb in succession.

Jean: Confirmed. Orbs are empty.
Rogue: Where *are* these guys?
Evan: They have to know we're here.
Kurt: What now? There's no sign of them.

A flaming Ace of Spades floats between them.

Jean: Run!

As they scatter, the card explodes.

Beast: Over there.

Lance: Finally, some action!
Pietro: You have no idea. *runs the other way*
Wanda: It's a trap!

As all the teams approach the scene, metal stuff starts to rearrange itself. An entire building flies apart, revealing Magneto and the Acolytes. They're surrounded by flame.

Remy starts flinging cards, starting with, mysteriously, another Ace of Spades.

Beast leaps towards the group, but Sabertooth tackles him in midair.

Someone kicks a barrel at Evan. Pyro manipulates flames around it, but Jean levitates Evan out of the way.

Meanwhile, a flame-hand is chasing Rogue. It's extinguished by Ororo's rain. Then she fries Pyro's flamethrower with a lightning bolt.

Now someone throws a barrel at Beast. He looks up to see Sabertooth jumping down at him. He catches the acolyte on his feet and does some kind of acrobat trick to bounce him off. Sabertooth winds up on a scaffolding, and Beast climbs after him.

Beast: Where's Wolverine?
Sabertooth: He's - around.

A metal beam ripples and captures Beast.

Wanda scans the nearby buildings for Magneto.

Scene: The Institute.

Computer: The Institute will self-destruct in one minute.

Bobby: I can't disable it!
Ray: Out of the way. I'm going to fry this turkey.
Scott (entering): No! Do that, and it's all over. And I don't mean in a good way. Who did this?
Computer: Access Denied.
Scott: Never mind, I just got my answer.
Ray: Just get us out of here whatever way you came in!
Scott: There's no time! We only have fifteen seconds!
Bobby: Well, do something!
Amara: Scott!
Scott: Come on!

The computer goes into countdown. Three, two, one...

All fall down.

Commercial break!

Scene: The facility.

There are emergency room type instruments: an IV drip, a heart monitor, etc.

Trask: He has amazing regenerative powers. His wounds are healing at an accelerated rate.
Lackey: Sir, I think you'd better see this.

The TV shows Evan shooting spikes at something. Then Kurt appears and teleports him away.

Trask: Mutants. Is the Sentinel back online yet?
Lackey: No, sir.
Trask: Well, hurry up!

Scene: The battle.

Rogue removes a glove while sneaking around a corner. She comes face to face with Remy. He pulls out the King of Hearts, and she holds it with him. He charges the card and bows himself away. Then Rogue notices the card is on fire, and throws it away.

Colossus throws something big at Todd, and the little guy jumps to land on top of it.

Todd: Hit the Toad, win a prize.

Colossus throws a metal beam. Todd jumps, runs along it, and jumps off, aiming to attack the acolyte.

Todd: Miss, and you're body-slammed!

He lands feet-first on Colossus' chest, and... just sort of sticks there.

Todd: Heh heh.
Fred: A strong guy, huh? Let's compare.
Todd (about to be flung away): Wait wait no aaaaahhh!

Fred body-checks Colossus, and he flies back against a wall. Kitty phases out, they look at each other for a minute, and then she drags him inside the building. After she comes out, Lance uses a shockwave to collapse the warehouse.

Meanwhile, Beast is being strangled by his beam. He pries it open and climbs out, only to be tackled again by Sabertooth. He looks pretty out of it. The acolyte picks up something to finish him. Rogue comes and drains her teacher. She uses a flying kick like Todd's, only it's more effective.

Wanda spots Magneto and Pietro on top of a building. As she moves towards them, the whole area begins to ripple. Ororo follows her, and summons the rest of the team.

Pietro: They're coming for us. And Wanda's leading the charge.
Magneto: She'll have to wait. It's time to move this along.

The ground shakes violently.

Xavier (still in the Velocity): Oh no.

The ground under everyone collapses. Wanda clings to the edge and sees her father. Then she loses her grip and falls into the pit.

Trask: How many?
Lackey: At least a dozen. All mutants.
Trask: They have no idea what they've blundered into. Is the Sentinel ready?
Lackey: It's awaiting your commands, sir.
Trask: Good. Set it loose. Let them face their future.

The X-Men come to and hear guns being cocked.

Rogue: Uh oh.
Ororo: Nobody move.
Todd: Who wants to move?
Evan: What now?
Kurt: Sounds like - footsteps...
Trask: Operatives, stand down.

The soldiers leave, and the Sentinel comes in.

Pietro, standing at the edge of the pit, turns back and races up the side of the building.

Pietro: He released the Sentinel.
Magneto: As I knew he would. Now the whole world will know of us.

He lifts the collapsed ground back up, so the mutants and Sentinel are at ground level.

Trask: What? No!

Predictably, the Sentinel fires while the mutants back away.

A news helicopter flies overhead.

Reporter: Traffic is backed up on the I-95 and - uh, Frank? You might want to get this.

On live news, Ororo flies up and throws a lightning bolt at the Sentinel. Its arms kind of fall apart, revealing more weapons.

Reporter: News room, this is news chopper six. The whole world has to see this!

The Sentinel advances and shoots Ororo out of the air. Evan gets mad and shoots everything he has at the robot, managing to take out the central lasers. Fred throws a car hammer-style, and Jean guides it with her telekinesis.

Show within a show! People watch the battle on their TVs.

News Anchor: ...as strangers with inhuman powers desperately fight the metal monolith...

Principal Kelly stares. Duncan stares. Taryn drops her phone. Amanda channel surfs and stares. Paul just keeps pouring his milk.

Fred gets hit with the green goo while lifting a car, and Evan is frozen too.

Police surround Ororo, but she summons all her powers and focusses them on the Sentinel. In turn, it reveals jet packs and flies over her storm. It slimes Rogue and Kitty, but Kitty phases out. Then it blocks Beast's attack and slimes him too.

Kurt and Todd are hanging on a streetlamp. The Sentinel shoots at them, and they escape in their own ways. Kurt teleports into the middle of a group of police officers, who run away.

Todd: Lookit, they brought in the Marines.

Magneto (deflecting the helicopters): Not yet.

Kurt (teleporting into a helicopter): 'Scuse me. Hope you don't mind if I borrow this.

He takes some kind of explosive, jumps out, teleports to the Sentinel's shoulder, sets the grenade, and escapes. The bomb explodes, and the Sentinel stumbles back into an office building. It recovers, spots Magneto, and identifies him as a mutant.

Magneto seals his acolytes in their spheres and sends them away. Then he'ss distracted by Pietro screaming.

Wanda: Hello, father.
Magneto: Not now, Wanda!
Wanda: You locked me away.
Magneto: I had no choice. Your anger -
Wanda: You haven't seen me angry until now. *hexes him*
Magneto: Wanda, release my powers! You have no idea what you're doing!

Unable to deflect the approaching Sentinel, he dodges its fire. Xavier comes in the Velocity and shoots at the robot.

Wanda: Stay out of this!

She hexes the Velocity, losing her hold on Magneto. He reverses the Sentinel's missiles, causing the thing to blow up and fall on him. The blast knocks Wanda off the building. Kurt teleports to her and brings her safely to the ground.

Xavier: Everyone in, now.
Jean: What about the others?
Xavier: There's nothing we can do.
Ororo: He's right. Everybody in.

They all get on the Velocity and fly away.

Random News Clips: - destroyed a robot using superhuman abilities. What's your take on this, Senator? We're doing our best to get to the bottom of this. Humans or monsters, and can they be trusted? Alien invaders, or some kind of strange mutation?

The Velocity arrives home to find the Institute destroyed.

Kurt: What happened?
Jean: What about - Where are the students?

They get out.

Jean: I don't see anyone. Bobby? Amara?
Bobby: We're over here! We're okay.
Jean (runs to hug Scott): How did you guys survive this?
Sam: Scott got us to the Cerebro room just in time. It held up. Barely.

Scott pushes Jean away and goes to the Professor, grabbing him and pulling him up.

Scott: It was you! You did this!

He throws Xavier to the ground. Bobby and Kurt restrain him.

Xavier laughs evilly, and stands up. His voice goes weird and he turns into Mystique.

Mystique: You're right. It was me. And now things are about to get a lot worse.
